I gather there’s someone using the 2.0DOHC (Sierra) engine - there’s a 2.3 16v version used in the Galaxy which I think might work although it’s a heavy beast and injection only.

From research, there’s little benefit of the ST170 engine over a normal 2.0 unless maintaining the VVT - not the easiest thing to do by the looks of it outside the Ford ECU (although doable).

Ahh ok might look at the standard 2.0 then as want to run throttle bodies ideally anyway

Has anyone fitted chassis strengthening to there ss1?

Full cage is the best strengthening for chassis, creates a complete semi spaceframe

Even a factory roll hoop would improve things a little - but not as far as a full cage. 12 weeks lead time, £900 (in round numbers) before you ask :D

I’m not sure a trials car needs the rigidity a cage provides - maybe the question was more to do with localised strengthening to prevent cracking etc? If so, the only bits on the chassis that spring to mind are the rear damper mounts and the diff mounting? Aside from that, the wishbones (front and back) need quite a bit of work.
