Me again,

When I sold the SST 1800Ti and 1400 CVH Sabres I passed on not only the fully documented history files I had gathered for them but also all the relevant ancillary documents. This included such items as the workshop and parts manuals (the red ones), alternative parts book, wiring diagrams etc. In fact everything relating to that which would be helpful in maintaining the cars. Having now bought the above I feel I now need to build up my library again. Appreciate that Reliant weren't the greatest with regard to such documentation but did Bean Industries issue any documentation for the later Sabre models such as Owners Manual etc. or do I have to make do with the ones I previously owned which in the main were for the SS1.

Also as the car appears to still be fitted with dim/dip headlights (put sidelights on and headlights pop up) can someone post the mod to the switch which corrected this anomaly. If I recall correctly it was in Slice 125. This is another library I need I need to replace.

Mike, Beans published very little for the K series outside of the owners handbook and the type approval docs (which I have copies of) - they do include dim-dip and headlight/aux light flash wiring mods. Obviously a metro K series Haynes manual will cover the engine, the SS1 red manuals cover the mechanicals and Peter Freeman’s excellent wiring diagrams have been updated from my stripping of a Sabre K.

I have lots of Slice magazines and probably a couple of spare red manuals too but postage would be massive.

Thanks Phil - Have just printed it off. Great start.

Hi Jim - Have obtained second hand copy of the Haynes manual. Re Peters wiring diagrams I think I have just found it on an old memory stick. Will start searching the forum over the next few days to see what else I can find. As to other items you have agree postage will be expensive so possibly not on. However later in the year once the better weather comes around maybe by making use of good old volunteer Scimitarians it might be possible to get them transported. Still won't worry for now. Thanks all the same.

Be aware the owner's handbook it's full of wishful thinking about what they hoped to do (once they had used up the old stock) :!: I think I still have mine which I could donate to a good cause.

Please also be aware of the fuel return pipe. On the Rover application it's 3" long and connected to a steel rail bolted to the manifold. The Reliant one is about 3ft long floating over the engine bay. The pipe softens, links and blocks the outlet at the end of the fuel rail, building up pressure (particularly at low revs with high fuel return) until it bursts the pipe.
How do I know, it happened to both of mine, I even drove one 20 yds after the explosion :oops:

I’m mid way through replacing my lines and not exactly the same routing as Reliant did so I get no kinks. I’ve also got a lot less flexible hose there despite it being replaced not too long ago and fell apart - horrible cloth covered rubbish. I won’t say where it came from or who fitted it.

Thanks guys - good advice and useful info.

Remind me - front and rear brakes. Which cars were they from. Understand from Leigh that rears are weeping and the front calipers have rusted pistons especially around the circumference where they meet the seals. Said that the front pads would need changing fairly soon and concerned that when he pushes the pistons back to accept new pads they would possibly leak. Can you get stainless pistons along with a seal kit?

Sorry fellas but will probably have a lot more questions to pester you with as the car gets sorted.

Rear brakes - Mk3 Escort (I used to say XR3 and van to get the right bits, but so many catalogues are wrong nowadays or only work on a reg number so it might be pot luck). Front calipers are early Metro (if standard), but fitted upside down (L is R, R is L). Pads "used" to be Metro Turbo spec - but that's when you used to be able to get the different compounds.

Is the bracket bolted to the block that the alternator is attached to a one piece casting or was it modded by Reliant. Reason I ask is that the one fitted to this engine has a welded bottom lug. The effect of this is that the when looking down on the alternator it does not sit parallel and square to the block and is tilted back at the top. The result is the belt does not run in line ie. not 90 deg to the front of the engine nor vertically. Not out by much but enough to be picked out when looking at it. Where the alternator is attached to the top lugs some spacers have been inserted but it does seem correct to me. Appreciate that I am not explaining this very well but my experience is that in general the alternator bolts directly onto the block or bracket without spacers. Doesn't seem to affect the running of the car but would have thought this wouldn't be doing the alternator pulley bearing much good in the long run as the belt does not run in line with the other engine pulleys.

If the bracket is at fault any suggestions as where I can get one.
