Sounds like a sticking relay that has freed itself.
As Jim pointed out.
The MB i`m working on has me tearing my hair out as they have around 8 or 10 relays, all fed from different sources.
Can`t get them ALL to work at once, it`s so frustrating fixing one fault to find another has crept up on you.

Cheers Mark.
I hadn't considered that at all.

Help required. 404 passed the MOT today. Had a Kenlowe electric fan controller installed in the aluminium rad. All working fine.
BUT fuel pump has now stopped registering. Worked fine every time beforehand. Garage checked all fuses and both sides of fuse clips are good. Cleaned connections on fuel tank but still nothing. Left 404 there but I want it back tonight.
Any ideas before he pulls out the front panel of gauges.
Must have disturbed something.Put £15 petrol in before MOT. Blue petrol light on then off (border line level I guess)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Why are you pulling out the gauges for a fuel pump failure?

Edit - do you mean gauge?

Earth the wire on the sender that goes to the gauge and see if you get a full reading - that’ll tell you straight away if the gauge is u/s.

Yes Jim I meant gauge.
Frustrated as one step forward (not been on the road since last year) now Curborough in a few days.
I’ll try that earth suggestion.

Check the earth on the fuel tank.

The gauge etc. appears fine. Earthed one connection - blue low level lamp lit up. Earthed the other connection and gauge gave full reading.
The guy mentioned that one connection on the tank sender unit doesn’t appear to have a good tag/connection. He thinks that this connection has had tiger seal or something similar used to make/create the connection. He doesn’t want to mess with this at the moment as it’s so close to Curbs weekend. He also suggested that the sender unit maybe corroded. So I’ll order one from Graham Walkers and hopefully pick up at Curbs.
Does all the above sound about right and a new tank sender unit will be required to fix the problem?

You’ve confirmed the gauge works - and the temperature gauge presumably works, so I’d just check the connections on the voltage stabiliser before finally condemning the sender (but it probably is the sender :D )

Or could it be one of the connections on the sender, rather than the sender itself?

I'll check. But such a coincidence. One fan temperature sender unit just wired in then the petrol gauge reading goes awol.
