another SE5a parts wanted

Post by jon831 » Fri Aug 09, 2019 2:25 pm

Hi, I am trying to get my SE5a on the road and need a few parts, if anybody can help it would be appreciated. I will be going to Scimfest on either Sat or Sun.
The parts I need are headlamps, fuel tank sender unit, tailgate gas struts, S/S bottom coolant pipe, clutch pedal return spring.
Thanks Jon.

Welcome to the forum Jon.

You’ll find all of those parts at Curborough :D

Thanks rog, I will visit those stands as my list is growing. I now need a brake light switch and a brake master cylinder as well. Also I have just found out why the paint on the body around the rear hatch is rubbed through, one hinge pin is snapped and it looks a pig to repair and possibly can't be done without cutting the fibreglass to get to the pin housing. Ideas from people who have already tackled this would be most appreciated. It's a 1975 car and the pin only seems to be supported on one side of the hinge bracket. The rest of the pin is seized in the bit that is glassed into the body.

I think you may have misunderstood how it works - the pin is welded into the bit that is glassed into the roof, and the hatch hinges rotate on the static pin. (unless they seize, which may cause it to snap off). A search on the forum will reveal more - try Geoff's project thread on SAR, I think he had to deal with it?

Yes the pin has seized in the hinge and snapped off. Thanks for suggesting Rogers thread I will look at that to see how he solved the problem. Initially I am thinking of make a second bracket to glass in so the hinge is supported on both sides. The awkward bit will be glassing it in so the hinge/tailgate lines up properly, it might not be achievable.
