Phil
So the problem is noise/wear within your axle.
It may just be wear in the bearings in the diff, OR wheel bearings.
Most of the noise can be removed with replacement bearings and correct re setting of the crown and pinnion.

Have you checked the welds on the torque tubes and centre casting, because IF the welds have failed/or failing then it needs addressing PDQ. :w

Yes as already alluded to, straight 6 axle is a different length to V6 axle ( coupe)

I've got the original S6 axle (damaged, and I assume not changed before I got the car in 1988) and the replacement axle from a V6. They are both the same length.

However, my S6 is a late car and as already mentioned over the years, has lots of V6 features both in chassis and suspension

Probably not the best example to suggest a comparison

Phil, QRG were advertising a few Coupe rear axles on Facebook last week, may be worth ringing Nigel to discuss.

Hi guys. So the decision has been made (forced) The axle is coming out and going to a specialist in Preston who says he can turn it around in 2 to 3 days. I'll have another chat with him. But I did manage to win a rev counter on e-bay. I'll let you know. Cheers Phil D.

If its a 7HA I hope you have a firm quote and know what you are getting for your money as the parts are expensive

Hi guys. Here's a question. Is the 7HA the same as fitted to the Daimler Dart ? If so I can get a new crownwheel and pinion same ratio. Cheers Phil D.

Very likely. Also used on lots of old Morgans so there is a good choice of crownwheel & pinion ratios, but plenty £££
