Ben's SS1 - Ti Sprint Car

Post by Benc » Mon Sep 16, 2019 3:21 pm

Ah yes when I check on PC the caliper is upside down, iPhone is OK though.....

Suspension wise I thought I had it sorted, new springs, dampers seem ok, new anti roll bar on the shelf ready to fit. As Phil says I was on my way to a 180!

One question what do folks use for replacement engine and gearbox mounts?

Oh and great photo's as always Tom well done mate

Gearbox mount = https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Cortina ... 2749.l2649

Engine mounts = https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Ford-Esc ... 2749.l2649

Made a huge difference and zero movement

The engine mounts are easy enough with the engine in place but the gearbox mount is a pain in the a*se in situ, its much quicker to pull the engine and box trust me!

Did my gearbox mount in situ. Yes it was a PITA but easier than pulling the engine. But if Ben’s pulling the engine anyway to do the clutch then definitely do the mount then.

I use polly engine mounts and a harder Ford gearbox mount like this https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 4274502198 . And it’s a third of the price if Darryl’s

Cheers Guys for the info.

Just bought an Exedy clutch for s13 200sx 1.8L £209 list at euro but £138 with offer.

Will I need one of those engine leveller things or will it be OK as the front is removed?

Easy with front removed Ben

The lotus cortina 70 shore is my choice too for gearbox and poly but not solid engine mounts, Corky has posted links before iirc, they are yellow

I’ve got rally design Escort heavy duty ones on mine - they’re rubber but may as well be solid! Engine doesn’t move a mm on the rolling road at full chat.

As per Craig, another vote for the uprated rubber gearbox mount too.

Yes, they're the ones I have. I fitted them to the DET and to the current car.

😃 now back in on new mounts, one of the old ones had sheared, clutch didn’t have many miles left either, new sump gasket fitted.
