Here I am 8)
Mike bike, the most important bit of your post is the word Jersey.
Jersey is not in Europe.
Having spent eight months registering a swiss car in France I am rather discouraged.
Basic 'how to' is on the Scimitar France site http://www.scimitarfrance.net/scimitarf ... atric.html
I can certainly produce the necessary Certificat de Conformité but you will need to pass by the Douanes, pay import duty and VAT.
As I said it took me eight months, so I can't remember half the complications.
Don't whatever you do try for a WW registration, this is (probably the only) unnecessary complication.
There are a couple of points in your favour, the car is already in France and it is old enough not to need pollution testing.

The french administration likes paperwork, I should think the export document would be helpful.

Would it be easier to register it in UK (quite a simple process I believe), then register it in France?

Details are coming back to me

To deal with the Douanes you have to use an accredited agent such as
https://www.mathezfreight.com/fr/

To deal with the prefecture it is advisable to use an accredited agent
https://www.didautocartegrise.fr

These are just examples local to me.
Note that an accredited agent deals direct with people in offices whereas you would have to deal with their website.
It is worth the extra cost.

Just seen Jim's post.
If Jersey-to-UK is easy, it might be worth a try.
But bear in mind that 31 december is Brexit definitive so Britain will be foreign too

Jersey to Uk would entail a payment to HMRC of VAT and car duty as Chris says Jersey is outside Europe when it comes to VAT and Duty.

It would entail a NOVA but at that age, I’m pretty sure that tax payable would be nil. Phil reliant-reviver imported an SS1 from Jersey a few years ago.

For a car of this age this should be easier. I have imported a 69 MGB from Switzerland, I had only paid a 5% tax but it implies to register with a "carte grise collection". As Chris said, I've used an accredited agent for the customs.
