Front hub bearing replacement

They require .002" to .006" end float to allow for the expansion in length of the rollers when hot. The end float is principally to allow for the expansion of the hub shell when heated due to braking, not expansion of the rollers. If you are going to use a clock gauge to check the end float, it is ...

Oil additives

The SCS article is good. As well as the suppliers mentioned, Smith & Allan also supply a range of oils, both mineral and synthetic, suitable for our vehicles. If you want really to be informed about oils, read Which Oil by Richard Michell. He is a specialist, who is well-informed, and the book is we...

211352/3/4 etc are only fitted to MANUAL racks.
As this is an SE6B I`m 99.9% certain it has a PAS rack.
Yes, the power rack has lock nuts by which the clearance can be adjusted.

There are shims to adjust the clearance at the inner ball joint:- part nos. 211352 [.010"], 211353 [.002"] and 211353 [.004"]. Adjustment of clearance will not materially affect the preload, which is dependent on the spring load.

Cologne dipstick.

It is most unlikely that either JB or Loctite would work unless you can get to both the end of the tube and the socket and clean with an aggressive solvent. A wipe with an oily rag or petrol will not do. A pipe jointing compound, such as Permatex 51D is more tolerant of oil and would stand a better ...

No, 1/8 BSP is close and will probably screw in - especially a shallow threaded plug such as you have used, but it is not correct.

The thread is not 1/8 BSP, it is M10 x 1. The large one for the heater off-take is M20 x 1.5. Almost all threads on the Cologne engines are metric.

The axle is not part of the link; it is a separate component.

Many thanks Geraint & Phil. That's what I wanted to know. I have a 6B parts book, but not a 6A.

SE6A &SE6B steering columns

Does anyone know if the steering column assembly - the upper 'fixed' part that carries the steering wheel, not the universal-jointed lower part - is the same on the SE6A & SE6B please?
