Interior plastic

I read somewhere use baby oil to revive old interior plastics... I hasten to add that I have NOT tried this myself, so I cannot vouch for the results and I am not recommending it... but it is on my list to try in the next few weeks.

The blunt end goes on your ear ☺
:D thanks for the tip! I will give it a go this week.
If valve clearances are the cause, will it do any damage if I continue to drive the car this week?

Tapping sound at idle

My 1978 SE6a (Essex V6) has just had new Burton head gaskets to resolve coolant loss issue. During fitting the heads were found to be warped and so were skimmed. New water pump was fitted and co-incidentally a brand new alternator. Since I got the car back I have been aware of a 'tapping' noise whic...

6a electrics - troubleshooting

Thanks all, I replaced the alternator with an upgraded one about 10 years ago. Will check the connections and test it at the weekend.

6a electrics - troubleshooting

Afternoon all. I have a 1978 SE6a that has developed an electrical fault and I don't know where to start to figure out what is wrong. The symptom are: 1) earth fault red lightening bolt light on the dash is on 2) indicators turn on constantly ie, not "winking", 3) overdrive will not engage 4) voltag...

Coolant pooling on top of inlet manifold

Thank you all, some points worth investigating.

Coolant pooling on top of inlet manifold

My 1978 SE6a is currently in the garage for head gasket replacement and when the air filter housing was removed it revealed pools of coolant all along the offside of the inlet manifold - all the way from front to back of the engine. The mechanic is investigating the cause (having only just found it ...

Great idea peter... Does anyone know if the motor is easy to separate? I can't do welding!

SE6 Electric window regulator

I need a new electric window regulator with motor for the drivers door on a 1978 SE6A. The Rimmer Bros website shows the regulator for the Rover SD1 RH door [part BLP1068] is twice the price of the LH door [BLP1069]. Is there anywhere else I can get the RH one at more reasonable price?

Bumper Rubbers

My bumpers look like that as well. I always assumed a previous owner painted or coated them and the coating is coming off.

Essex head gasket failed?

Also, can anyone give me an estimate of time taken to replace the head gaskets please so I can estimate costs? Will it be more than a day (for a garage that is)?

Essex head gasket failed?

There are exhaust gases in the cooling system so the head gasket is almost certainly on the way out and I am going to bite the bullet and replace the head gaskets and water pump. I would appreciate the benefit of other experience with regard to sourcing the parts - I am not sure if all gaskets are c...
