Water pump blanking plug

Post by TrevorG » Wed Aug 14, 2019 3:16 pm

Years ago, when I converted the choke on my Essex engine to manual control, I needed to blank off the feed from the water pump. Being a cheapskate, I found a bolt with non threaded section of the right size and used that, hose clipped into the shortened pipe.

Typically, this was still on the car when I purchased her back.

Now that I am renovating and rebuilding, I decided to get a proper blanking plug. However, I was shocked at the price of this little lump of neoprene!

I thought there must be a cheaper one out there and eventually found a Peugeot boxer blanking plug for under £3 which was the same size, so I ordered one. It arrived today and fitted perfectly. Every little saving helps!

That looks like a new pump - couldn’t you buy the 6 type with the top takeoff undrilled?
