anyone know who might supply a new air flow meter for 1800 Ti as i cannot tell if its working or not.

Check for water in the MAF (apparently quite common) and you can try cleaning the wire (visible down a small hole in the alloy casting) with a no residue electronics cleaner (dont actually touch the wire, just use a spray - this is fine as far as I know) but you have to be really careful with it, as all MAFs (Or AFMs, if you prefer) are fragile.

Also, whilst checking it, look to see if the fuel adjustment blanking plug has been drilled out. The fuelling is set at factory level but can be adjusted a little by drilling out (very carefully!)the plug (under a round rubber cover) and revealing the adjustment screw. Details are in the Red Book...

maybe silly question, but does the throttle butterfly close properly?
Note, at the throttle there's an idle speed control pot that provides a gradual drop in (lower) revs when you take your foot off the throttle. Check it's functioning OK. And I there's a small screw to adjust when the pot is activated. Again, ensure nothing there is preventing the throttle from fully closing.

As for the throttle valve switch, it has 2 positions: idle and not-idle. Adjusting it while running will be switching between these, thus causing the revs change. Best to set it with a meter, as shown in the manual. There should be continuity across the terminals when throttle is fully closed, and continuity should immediately break once you open the throttle. But from what I've just read, a faulty switch would result in failure to idle, not high idling.

if it's idling too fast and cannot be slowed, there's too much air reaching the engine...one way or another...

Well folks after all the tribulations that i have experienced with my Ti engine i'm pleased to announce that its all over !! I finally gave in and admitted i didn't have the technical resources to fix it myself, so find a garage to sort it, find a garage that knew what it was ?? find a garage that had anybody working there that was older than the car ?? NO mate, what is it ? It doesn't have a plug in port ? little flashing lights ?? Think we'll pass on that mate!!
So eventually found a garage, local , really local ! like 4 miles away , Banktop garage,Dinnington. The owner Alan,looked at it and said yeah remember working on these engines when an apprentice , Music to my ears . a few days later after gas analysers , smoke machines, etc etc, car starts FIRST click and runs like a dream, he said it was mainly mixture and little difficult to find ingress of air ( hence the smoke machine ) He definitely looked a little younger when i took it than he did when i picked it up!!! Anyway Thanks to all and lets hope it all stays good. Might get to drive it now!
