dvla tax rates
Hello Everyone!
We are thinking of changing our 9 seater Vito for something similar. I have seen a few I like the look of and have looked on the DVLA vehicle check website to see what the CO2 level is, to work out how much tax I will have to pay. A lot of vehicles, mostly imports, come up as zero g/km. I can't believe you won't pay a penny in tax so how else can I check which tax band the vehicle will be in?

thanks!
the same thing happens with this site - take N407BRR for instance, comes up as zero tax.
However, on this site, our current vehicle comes up at £230 per year when, in fact, we are charged over £550!

Surely there are other sites which will give you the CO2 for a particular model?
e.g. https://www.nextgreencar.com/used-car-search/

thanks,
These sort of sites are great for general information, but we all know there are differences between the real world and the DVLA and I am looking for find out exactly what the DVLA holds for individual vehicles rather than general information about models.

If you are interested in a specific car, get the 11 digit code from the owner off the v5 and on the DVLA website, you can check that actual vehicles tax rate.

thanks,
AFAIK you can do the same thing from the registration plate search service on the same site so I am not sure why the vin search would give a different result, but even so, I don't think people would give out their vehicle details especially if the reg plate is clearly visible in the advert. I dream about a lot of vehicles each week so it isn't really practical to contact every one I am interested in.

I presume that if it comes up with zero on the DVLA site, it’s not on the V5C. Not sure what they do in that case to calculate VED?

Tax on newer vehicles is complicated by first years tax being higher on some vehicles than subsequent years.
Also vehicles over a certain value are the surcharged for the first five years which can lead to a sudden drop after five years old.
Complicated by changing in rates changing in previous budgets
Vehicles registered before 2001 are flat rate charged at £160 below 1549cc and £265 above
