Blanking otter switch orifice

Want to blank off the otter switch hole in the GW rad I’ve got - How should this be done? Soldered/ brazed/welded?

Simplest is just to fit an otter switch (sure with ty-wrap/locking wire if you’re not confident in the standard locking system).

Thanks Jim but I’m struggling to get the clip to hook over the edge of the rad as there is no lip for it to hook over hence my thought to blank it

Is it an alloy rad?

The currently supplied clips (a thin stainless affair) don't go over the end tank..

Blanking otter switch orifice

Post by scimitargtc » Fri Jun 14, 2019 5:29 pm

As you correctly say, photos and words plus something lost in my description,,, the clip I’m on about Is the one that fits onto the bracket the otter switch goes into and then supposed to clip over the edge of the rad. clip does an excellent impersonation of a dizzie cap clip. Will go down to the bottom of street later with these issues images and rele@rn what I thought 💭 knew..... rad is alloy, local garage used to welding on other scims won’t do it as they can’t guarantee wAter tightness

I know the clip you’re on about - haven’t been used for a while since the “new” type came out many years ago. All you need is the switch, a new seal (they’re one use only) and the clip shown in those pictures.

I think those old-style clips will only fit the old-style otter switches with the round terminals; the newer ones with the spade terminals are a slightly different size. You could probably modify the clip to fit the switch but then you'll find it probably doesn't fit any rad except the original ones anyway.......
