Diff pinion oil seal

Post by philhoward » Mon Sep 02, 2013 9:26 am

One of the "settling in" niggles is the Torrey Canyon from the pinion seal on the axle. Is it a generic seal (for a Landrover etc) or do people just go to QRG/GW and save the hassle? Also - is only the neoprene one available these days? Hope so as wont have time to soak a leather one before fitting..

According to James Carter, "they all leak after a long lay up". Not sure they're meant to leak this much though - it was dripping off the chassis for a week..

I got one from QRG - obviously it was dearer than fleabay, but I felt it was worth the fiver to be sure it was right, and to have a supplier I knew I could go back to in the event of a problem. :)

I got one from GW, not scary money at all. Rubbery one (not leather) and a piece of cake to fit.

Be careful though as there are two different pinion flange sizes I believe

I did Phil but I don't know where and I have so much on file it may be very difficult to find. I thought I had put the number on my service files but cannot find it - all I remember is that it was landrover.

One of my posts somewhere has the part number for the landrover part... Assuming the 6a is the same as a 5/a.

Paid about 6 quid iirc, not sure how that compares to gw / qrg

Browsing on a phone at the moment so searching isnt easy

Hth

Mike.
