"How would you like to meet Lewis Hamilton?"

Post by Raz987 » Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:42 pm

That was the phone call I got last week from a Squadron Leader in Recruiting & PR. So today I caught the train down to London and went to the Cafe Royal for the BRDC Annual Awards Dinner.
The purpose of my prescence was for a photo with Lewis to promote engineering crossover between the Air Force and motorsport. The female in the pic is a Rally Co-driver and engineering officer. The RAF are also sponsoring the engineering award and are sponsoring Silverstone for the next 3 years. So hopefully that won't be the last of the "bonuses"...
Poor photo, taken over lots of photographers. Better pic should be available soon...

Also had a chat with the legendary Paddy Hopkirk.
As soon as the photo was taken we left, so I spent the afternoon wandering around London, for the first time in 12 years :D

Nice one Raz,

How impressive is that!!! I think Lewis is a star, big Hill fan, but being in the same room as my all time hero Nigel Mansell would've been the highlight...

Did you get to chat to them??

Paul.

good work fella! great bit of exposure for the purebred race car that is the SS1, and not bad for the RAF either

Hamiltons Hugo Boss suit is probably worth the same as a mint, concours low mileage ss1 turbo...

Damon Hill looks like an aging rock star now and quite cool, whereas I always had him down as 'too nice' and clean cut when he was in F1.

can I have ya autograph Mister? will you still talk to us amatuers?

Didn't really get to talk to any of them which was a shame. Spoke to Lewis for about 30 seconds, but that was about it. He asked me if I was a pilot... Spent about 5 minutes talking to Paddy Hopkirk though. We were only there for the champagne reception, as soon as the awards dinner started we left.
