Best rim size for Race SE5?

Post by collin » Wed May 02, 2018 6:55 am

Hi.

I'm looking to specify a set of 7 x15'' Minilite style alloy rims for my car as they would appear to be an optimum size to fit within the arches if I can work out the correct offset etc
8 x 15's would seem a step too far and foul the arches.

Any advice would be welcome as the wheel manufacturers/retailers are not too helpful these days

Welcome :D

Standard wheel sizes are given in this thread, so you should be able to get a rough idea of offset using a site like www.willtheyfit.com

I think 8x15 have been fitted with spacers to standard arches but it will be very close and can depend on the tyre a lot (size and tyrewall strength)?

If it's for racing are there any limitations in the regs for your chosen series? For example, in the CSCC swinging sixties, you need to use a minimum 60 profile tyre. If you have 60 profile tyres on a 15" wheel, it's quite tall and lifts the car ride height, so 14" wheel is a better fit. If you can go to 50 or 55 profile then the 15" works ok.

If you want 7x15 you need around -10mm offset, 8” is too big for standard arches, and I found 7x14 were best for racing in 60 profile as mentioned above..

I went with these, it seems quite a few competition cars have them:
