Oulton Park 2 June 2018

Post by BigBobPilot » Sun Jun 10, 2018 12:48 am

The CSCC swinging 60s were out again at Oulkton Park on 2nd June. It was the same Sabres & Scimitar as at Silverstone.

John Leslie & John Devlin continue to run very closely to each other, John D was 25th on the grid, with John L 25th along side him. However, here's a photo just after the start, which shows that John L clearly had a good start

After my pit stop, I came up behind the 2 Johns, who had both already pitted, the onboard video clip from our Marcos shows just how close they were. John Leslie in the bright red #4 car is the first one, behind John Devlin in the burgandy #38:

I haven't got any onboard of Phil Otley in the orange SE5, he was too close behind us. However, I watched his pit stop, as I was in the pit lane waiting for Danny to come in for our stop in the Marcos. I have to say, he & his team were very slick, it was a great stop:

https://www.davidstallardphotography.co ... /i-dHWnWmF

Phil had a great result & was 2nd in class, 7th over all.

Unfortunately John Devlin had an engine issue & retired, but here is a great shot of Scimitar & Sabre together before he retired:

I've spoken with John Devlin today, unfortunately, the issue was a cam bearing falling out the block, caused by a crack around the cam journal & main bearing, so a replacement block will need to be machined. Fortunately no other components were damaged, but the block is a significant part of the engine to fail!

John Leslie got a penalty for undoing his seat belts before coming to a halt in the pits. I helped him with his pit stop (while Danny was driving the first half of the race). I didn't think he'd released his belts early, but I couldn't be 100% sure, unfortunatly nor could John, so there was no no ground to appeal the decision. With his 60 second penatly, he ended up 9th in class & 24th over all.

I think it was the biggest class for 2 - 3 litre cars I've seen in the Swinging 60's, with 12 starters (total grid 38 starters).

Well done to you both, great result and times!!

Still feels strange looking at those pics of Tango... Strong feeling of jealously as it still feels like my car with all the work that went into building it!! Good times, and it's great to see it out and back in the top ten where it belongs 8)

I really need to get out in the Coupe next year, I've not wanted to race for a few years but the urge is definitely returning!!

How do you show the car is doing 60 kph? I presume it's for the pit lane limit, but does it mean some sort of automatic light?

Are you asking in general for pit lane speeds & code 60 flags? Or specifically on the Marcos?

If it's for the Marcos & you noticed from the on-board video that the speedo doesn't work, we've got a pit lane speed limiter. It really simple in that we've got an Emerald ECU with switchable maps. We have maps for 50 kph & 60 kph, which just have a low rev limit and you use 2nd gear. For code 60 flags (like a virtual safety car in F1) a speedo would be useful, but we can manage without it.

On the digi dash on my SS1, I've set one of the aux lights to come on below 60kph.

I had a look at the regs to see if anything had changed and saw it said there had to be a visual indication the car was doing 60KPH and presumed that meant external?

Has the Marcos got EFi now?

Not to us!

That's Brands Hatch, we only did 1 race with the headlight covers painted. We were asked to fit the head lights back in.

No it has carbs, we're not allowed to go efi. The ECU just does the ignition system.

The 60 kph thing is an indication inside the car (speedo)
