Here's a message I've never seen before!
Had to resort to the 60" smart TV (not mine, in a friends house that we're staying in)

Yep an iPhone will notify if it gets too hot or too cold
Often rapid charging can make the phone hot

Re: Overheat
Battery gets hot - warps - the plates touch shorting out - current maximises creating more heat - bang

Re: Overheat
I've had that message with an iPod touch when in India but it was high 30's there.

Re: Overheat
Apparently yes but probably not the conventional plates you think of.scimjim wrote:Are there plates in an iPhone battery?

Re: Overheat
Exactly the same thing appeared on my screen last summer. Turns out an iPhone shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight for too long. Luckily, it didn't explode or melt ^^

Re: Overheat
Having repaired these several times (sorry for reviving an old thread) but iPhone and Samsung batteries are swines for swelling slightly, and then heat up like all hell when you try to charge them or ask the phone to do anything memory/processor/Gpu taxing, usual simple fix is replacement battery, common cause for it, and I know you lot are possible guilty is charging overnight, having seen a live demonstration of both companies various batteries "letting go" (boom) it's amazing just how hot they get....
