Running Plex have done for several years, excellent piece of software. I do run the server on FreeNAS (another excellent piece of software!) not a PC. I have PLEX clients on PC, Android, iPad/iPhone, Shield all work faultlessly.
Use it for streaming Video, TV recordings, Radio recordings music(mp3 and FLAC). Again all work well. The way Radio recordings are organised is a little odd as there isnt a specific library so it treats them as albums.
It will automatically transcode (ie translate) the media to try to match the capability of the client mostly successfully in my opinion but you have to have enough power/speed for the PLEX server usually not an issue if you are running it on a PC.
As you can tell I am a fan!

Hi Peter

Im running PLEX on my PC with Windows 7 SP1
I have Powerline setup here , that links my router , PC , Western Digital Media player , Amazon TV Fire box.

The Amazon TV Fire Box is connected via HDMI to my 7.1 amp , and then from the amp , HDMI to the TV

My problem is that the lip sync is terrible.

When using the WD media player or Amazon TV box , there is a facility to adjust the syn , but I cant sort it on PLEX.

Any suggestions please as the PLEX forum has drawn a blank

Many thanks

Lip sync can be a nightmare!
First question if you play the files on the PC are they in sync? Try with Plex and Windows Media Player.
Is everything else on the Fire box in sync?
If you asked a question on the Plex forum can you post a link?

Hi Peter

I have just installed VLC on the PC , and the sync is fine.
I have also tired the same film on Windows Media Player , and that is ok too.

The link to the forum is http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/254767/lip-sync#latest

I have just connected the seperate USB hard drive to my PC , and now I cant get PLEX to play a film either on my PC or TV
The message just asks if " the file exists and the drive is mounted "

Do I really have to get the library to build each time before I can use PLEX and view a film on the TV ?
I have proved the drive is mounted as I can play the film directly from the seperate drive onto my PC via VLC etc

So this looks like some new thats wrong at present Im afraid.

If it helps , please Email

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

I am not at my PC so I will respond via the forum for now.
There are 3 issues here at least!
My guess is that by pluggging in a USB drive you have changed the drive mappings and so Plex has lost your media.
No you should not have to get the library to build every time you use Plex it should remember.
Where are your media files stored? On the WD box?
How does Plex see the files? By this I mean what is the path to the media files?
Do you have a smart phone you could install Plex on to see if the lip sync problem is present? iPhone or Android phone or tablet would work.
Sorry if this sounds patronising but I am trying to keep it simple.
Let me know how you get on.
Once I am back at my PC i can send pictures via email.

Can you confirm that you are running the Plex server on the PC and the Plex client on the Fire box? (I think this is what you are saying)
Have you tried plugging the Fire box directly into TV to see if you still get lip sync problems?
