Sagging A*se

Post by stevesims » Sun Nov 01, 2015 11:59 am

A problem with trailing with extra weight on the boot lid and carrying bottle jacks, tools and other heavy kit in the boot is that the rear armature slowly sags.
This makes the doors hard to open and the soft top struggles to clip onto the windscreen top.
I had a tow bar on a donor car I bought so by fitting this to the SST (T for trials ) and making some bracing using metal box section I hope I have found a solution to this problem.

A bit of extra weight over the rear wheels won't hurt in trialling - you could have just tacked some thick walked square section inside the existing U section though?

Could you fit a petty bar from roll over par to passenger side tunnel to brace chassis? I had one on my ex Nigel Reeves racer (before MSA reg changes to full cage). Stopped chassis flexing fore and aft and stopped altering the door shut apertures
Have some pics on old pc if you need them

I have seen that on other cars, my concern is that we don't wear skid lids and I don't want to much metal in the car that we can bang onto.
My next idea is to weld a box section bar between the A pillar to the B pillar ,the door cards will have to come out though.
Has anyone got any tips on mouthing a hydrolic hand brake?

Ah good point. On my original ss1 cvh racer i fitted door bars between A & B pillars, reduced flex no end before i had full cage
