Gurston/Wiscombe

Post by Nick » Sat Aug 31, 2013 8:16 am

I wondered if anyone is doing either of these?

Gurston 8th and Wiscombe 14th Sept. No longer on the same weekend.

According to the Gurston finals there are no Scimitars I'm afraid, despite a good field of us last year. Wiscombe has been very poorly attended by us over the past 2 or 3 seasons. I decided not to make the journey this year because of the events falling on different weekends. Both fantastic hills so a great shame.

Nick
I was sort of caught out by the dates, I checked the one date and realised we were away so didnt bother entering either. As it turns I could have done the weekend of the 14th but assumed they were same weekend.

Like Trevor though, im sure more of us would loom to do the events next year of they were on the same weekend as they jave been for many years, maybe worth a bit of feedback to both organisers for their 2014 calendar? If not then a double event at either one (sat/sunday) is likely to see more scims enter imho.

Most of those who entered both events in the past were north of Watford ;-) so makes sense to maximise the weekend if at all possible.

Have to say Wiscombe wouldnt be the same without Dave Philips RIP :-( and his currently laid up partner in comedy, Len Turner (get well soon Boy Racer :-) )

Wiscombe's my favourite that I've driven so far, so high on my list for next year. I agree that a double header would go down nicely again. Even wiscombe twice in the same weekend would be a winner for me!

I think Jims white SS1 would go really well there, might even give Trevor a run for his money on handicap ;)

Unfortunately I accidentally booked a holiday over wiscombe this year, otherwise I'd intended to go.

Guys,

Will make discreet inquires re dates next year, but as different clubs I doubt we can influence.

Nick,

Have you been to Prescott or Loton? Similar to Wiscombe- without the hastle!.

Nick H

Re influencing the clubs point, bith clubs run each event as two days, so maybe an invite for sat and sunday for each? Or an invite for sat and sunday from one club and then a differing date in the year for the other?
