The current system of "First come first served" is the fairest and best way of doing it - or certainly has been in the past.

A bit OTT is an understatement Phil as is your response to Steve IMHO; don't normally do controversy but in this case I'll make an exception.

I don't disagree with first come first served provided we all know when the list is open. Never occurred to me to put my name forward in April. The dates have just appeared in Slice 251 and I emailed Nick the same day. Not much more I can do really.

OK, The whole point is to encourage some new competitors, Its really important to me to try and grow the motorsport side of the club.
For the record:
Nick and I will decide on the priorities for booking, at present I see no need to move away from first come first served, RSSOC members first, no special preference for compies.
It will be a nice problem if practice gets heavily over subscribed as I will be able to press for more time in the schedule.
Booking willl be possible as soon as Nick issues the invite or we announce in Slice, sorry Steve but you can't reserve in advance for the rest of time (nice try tho!)
The offer of a taster ride on the track will not be part of practice (although your own passengers will be fine if you wish to use a practice slot and you sign them on)
I will organise a separate booking process for people who wish to have a taster run.
I will endeavour to maintain the 4 hour Saturday slot but if I can't a pro-rata reduction in the practice fee will be implemented.
I will need some volunteers to run the tasters, they won't need to have been on the practice session, bit as Nick says they will need a suitably equiped vehicle (seat, belts/harness etc).

The dates are in the current Slice Paul where we were invited to apply. Can we have a list on the forum of who has secured a place already :?:

My post about reserving in advance was very much tongue in cheek following Jim's post about reserving a place in April

Paul, as I mentioned earlier. I'm very willing to put myself forward to assist, as I know there is a real need to encourage more people to join in.

I'm happy to take people out on track, have my car in the marquee, chat to people etc. or whatever is required.

I think we all agree that an opening date should be set for the test days though - as any other event has. That way, no-one can complain that their computer went up in smoke or the dog ate their Slice - fixed at x number of weeks before Curbs and included on the season calendar?

I notice that last year a thread was started in June following email entries being received?

it would make a change - this was all discussed several years ago and first come-first served was agreed as an incentive (test day(s) and Sunday) - due to most SSSC compies being so poor at booking for their own event!!!!!

Wow, this threads really going to help encourage new entrants. Good work girls!

I agree that there should be a fixed entry date for the testing - infact i always assumed it was when the thread opened. A fixed date would make it easier for the organiser too wouldn't it? Less emails flying about before hand etc. the thread could exist, containing the details, but be locked until 1 June for example.

Regarding passenger rides, I can't see the take up being hundreds, so I expect if we wanted there will be enough willing compies to take them during the session - if it is a lot of people then We should have a rethink. I think we need to be careful not to cut the test session short, but I respect that some people prefer driving round cones so they need they're time too. I guess this is to benefit the sprinters in the long run, so 30mins at the end of Saturdays test session would make sense. It's our time, and our 'marketing' that we are looking to do with it.

And FFS, quit the bickering!

Tongue in cheek - Compies have always seemed to bicker - but in the end - an agreement is always reached that suits most people
