Lets be honest, Mikey - it's not had an easy life!

Could be one of a hundred reasons it failed (and how bad); guesswork can only really start when we see the pile of bits..

Looks on the bright side - the type 9 is a lot lighter than the original gearbox! Maybe drop a 4 speeder back in ready for sprinting at Curbs in August? :w Solves the issue of which class you can run in..

Ahh yes, your Dad is getting some sneaky practice in

Looks like I'll be playing catch up come the sprint.
reliant-reviver wrote:The 1800ti has more potential, and ultimately will always be quicker. But there is also a larger scope to bugger it up with not so wise tweeks, and the resulting car can be extremely difficult to drive. The SS1 is an ickle car with a small wheelbase, whilst it does have some weekness' and design flaws from standard, it's not bad, but respect needs to be paid to how sensitive it is to being changed about.
I think Nick proved the point at Curbs last year with his super smooth lap and barely 100bhp from a smokey CVH. Just shows how important it is to get the handling right and not be too hung up on power (at certain tracks).
I'm not dismissing the CVH at all, it has been put to use in some cracking cars over the years. Unfortunately my 1989 escort 1.4L estate wasn't one of them  If a half decent SS1 turns up last a good price, I'll give a go

Good call. You need to be out competing Mikey, your style is too entertaining and needs to be shared with a bigger audience.

Such a shame that Phil Morley didn't attend in his V8 GTE, we were all looking forward to seeing that go around!! Hope everything is alright Phil

Cheers

By the looks of those pics, there was some serious tescticular tonnage out there! Mikey giving it some serious "large" as usual, testing the shear strength of the GTE wishbones?

The Oakes Sabre being tested to tipping point again..and Snotty looking very composed?

Hi Dave

Great to see you yesterday, thanks for the photos. How can i contact you to have a look at some more.

Take the car out next time. The GTE's are tough as old boots, really. well out of my hands they are, anyway !

ha ha - polite way of saying I wasn't trying hard enough

you're right, I wasn't going for any records - the aim was to test the LSD (which will now go onto G97), the prototype cooling system (Polo rad - which will be copied onto G97) and the running gear in general (as a road car).

LSD was great and the cooling system had a small leak but is proved enough to warrant new hoses throughout (which will remove the joint that leaked). The running gear is good enough for a road car for now - poly and new springs/dampers in time but the brakes were the only problem area (I didn't have any - as in, pedal to the floor with minimal retardation :-)) the MC looked damp when I had a brief look this morning, so it could be at fault, or it could have just chucked a bit out of the cap? but they need looking at before I bang it in for an MOT.

It's pics like that which highlight why I won't take the exhaust under the rear ARB!

Dave, would love some more pics, how's best to go about an "exchange" ?

Nice to see you both and look forward to august.
I think the Essex clutch (pressure plate and friction plate) is the same one that's used right up to the 2.9i Sierra 4X4/XR4i - not sure what you'd need to upgrade apart perhaps from centre springs?
