Thoresby Park 16 September 2012

Post by Nick » Sat Aug 11, 2012 7:47 am

Following the loss of MIRA we have reached agreement with the Notts Sports Car Club for us to have a round of our Championship at their Thoresby Park sprint on 16th Sept.

This is a lovely venue between Nottingham and Sheffield, formerly on the SSOC Calendar. I am sure Notts will make us very welcome as usual. A great opportunity for those in the Midlands and North to get another round in!

So one road going GTE and one mod SS1 or RG Sabre

I've not put an entry in as yet. I'm just waiting to see if I can get the day off work. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be lonely.

its a good event, well run, often lots of runs ( i think i had 7 one year!!), but its a 'built for the day' track, lots of straw bales, plastic oil drums and red/white safety tape. It always reminded me of an old Lomabard RAC sunday stage
Surface is a little rough in places so not really suitable for slicks or 'durdy-low' cars, but fine for 1Bs. The main 'straight' is narrow. The legendary John Milligan managed to pirouette his SE5 at about 70mph and not hit anything!! i suggest you dont do that...

there are a couple of fun man-made chicanes, laid out with plastci oil drums. some have tennis balls on, so if you clout them you get a penalty.
the other penalty is that some are 50% filled with sand  , worth walking the course and kicking a few just to sight which you can and which you cant hit without damage.

Good fun event and well run

Sounds like a good day out. And only 90 mins from home.

I'll sort an entry out ASAP

John Louch indicated he and Steve were going.

I think Paul Andrews was thinking about it.....

How do. I see "Too Tall" Paul is in mod road going? Eric Morrey is in his Clan Crusader so I'll count him as the Fourth Musketeer! See you there, regards, "Precipitation Expert"

Oops, I missed Paul.

I also notice that I'm down as road going.

Ahhh well, they didn't have a Scimitar category on the form. Maybe that's why it's a bit mixed up.
