Here's a clearer rear view of 876 HWD - I think the filler cap location clinches it:

Just dug out this from Slice 61 ... hope it's readable. There are more photos one of the captions of which says Terry Cox was driving 648GUE

With due acknowledgement of copyright to RSSOC, Slice, and the original Author(s), this is the second page of photos that Andrew refers to:
648GUE is the third photo. Comparing it with the other photo, there are a number of differences - bonnet/scuttle vents, mirror, number roundel/square, not to mention the other features that we've already mentioned, so that's still a bit of a mystery?

Thanks John for the reminder of the club’s excellent sporting history. My first event was the RSSOC/Surrey Sporting Goodwood sprint, but some years later in 1990. A daunting, but very enjoyable, experience. I was bitten by the bug and, with Jaki, enjoyed a further ten or so years of sprinting and hill climbing.

Hi John, all this historical detail is fascinating I think, thanks for that. And talking of AKK45B, fast forward a few years, and here it is in 1986, in action at Goodwood again, this time with the red nose!

Thanks for the photos Roger, I have not seen them before, that was a lot younger me driving! Do you remember what the event was (I cant) as there is no number on the car so presumably it was not a sprint event, also a rare occasion its not raining!! Hope to have AKK on the road again this year(I have been saying that for the last 5 years
) John

The event, I believe, was the RSSOC/SSMC Equinox Sprint in March '86 (that presumably accounts for the fact that the marshals look well wrapped-up, although the sun is shining?). About the number, that's a good question. I'd missed the fact that you apparently don't have a number. All the other cars in the set of photos do, and looking at the photo again, I wonder if I can just see something on the driver's door? Maybe the LHS one had peeled off in the cold and the slipstream, but they didn't worry as long as there was one on the timekeeper's side of the car? Geoff Cooper's results archive on the forum does show you to be number 10. I'll look forward to seeing the car out and about again
Here's Tony Penfold from the same event, in his Coupe (WPL349G) in which I think he went on to win the club championship that year? Laying the foundations for a what has been very successful career for that particular car, in other hands (and other colours)

Posted on photobucket by Nigel Hand - probably early 90s but I thought this was the best place for them
