RIP. Should have received a knighthood years ago for his achievements on both two and four wheels.

Unique double world champion and never got a knighthood.
I suppose he never sucked up to politicians or did superficial charity work whilst enriching himself.
You can see I'm not cynical...

A great hero of my youth, a racing driver (/rider) in the real spirit of the age.
RIP John.

Mentioned John Surtees's death today to my dad -who is the same age- and he was quite shocked & recollected seeing him race in the early 1950s on a Vincent Comet (racing version Grey Flash?). My old fella's comment "....he was on an outclassed bike -half a Black Shadow- and no-one could get near him....." says it all about his skill.

He also said he always seemed to be a nice, genuine, normal bloke. RIP

1985 SS1 cvh. Galvanizing is for wusses with no sense of adventure.......
