Gloucester / Cheltenham Noggin

Post by myredscimitar » Mon Apr 26, 2010 8:43 pm

There was not much response ( from here or Yahoo ) to my earlier suggestion of reviving a Noggin in this sort of geographical area.

I'm now waiting to see if there any responses from a brief article in the next Slice ( anyone know when its due? )

If we can get a few more interested parties together its worth trying I think. At the moment its just me, Tom ( Demondays ) and possibly Michael ( though he has just sold his Middlebridge ). I don't think three is a viable starting point sadly.

Oh well, I tried.

Slice has been out about a week, and the article only produced one response ( from a 5a owner in Cheltenham )

Sadly I don't think its worth proceeding with only four interested owners in the area.

I'll put the idea on hold, and perhaps try again in a year or two.

give it a bit of time Keith - it took about 4 months before we had more than 4 or 5 regulars in Somerset :D

Ask John Unwin for a list of members in the area - the old membership database isn't too user friendly and it may take a little while (the webteam are working on a replacement) but I think it'll be worth it.

Keith,dont give up fella :)

I'd be up for a small noggin even if theres only 2/3 of us, as a small noggin thats going can always pick up momentum, looking in slice as well there are two new RSSOC members in Gloucester, would be handy if we could "rack their brains" to see if they'd be interested. Ok I may not have my car for the first one as she's part disassembled at J.K (i said RK before) waiting patiently on the lift as an XJS and Daimler Double Six have been brought in for some immediate work. However Pete has said that the car's being worked on in between still, although he has said that the car MAY run as late as june before it's finished. But im digressing......

I'd prefer to have a noggin go, even if its a small one as members can always start flying in, i know we have Andy (AJLElectronics) Myself, Your good self, Two new members to contact as well as the interested member in Cheltenham, if everyone is interested in a noggin that's Six members already! :D

Could even try that nice little beefeater as a meeting place just before the Twigworth/Hartpury roundabout near the Audi Dealership on the A40...... would be in Gloucester (Ok Not ideal) but it's a start of a thought process :)

Chaps,

we at the High Peak usually only have a small core of 5 or 6 regular attendees, we then get many others coming one month then missing a month due to work, holidays etc. It's still worth holding a meeting even if only in small numbers as you certainly won't attract larger numbers if you don't exist in the first place

My advice re meeting places would be to try and find a quiet pub with a side room (snug or old tap room) which you can take over, it stops all the pub regulars being bored/scared with tales of trunnions and it means you can get to know people better when not distracted by the fruit machine or sky sports.

Onviously a large carpark is good too and if it's on a main road, a line of scimitars outside might just entice passing owners to come and see whats going on every month

best of luck and keep trying, with a core of enthusiastic members, it will all come good in the end

cheers, Matt

Thanks all for the encouragement, I've been in contact with John Unwin, he is sending me details of members in the area.

I will see what contacting them brings.

Thanks for the offer Tom.

I'll wait until the details arrive from John Unwin ( promised for next week ) then get in touch.

The details should arrive as a spreadsheet, perhaps we could split the contact making between us?

I'd be up for that, would help us contact local members quicker and gain a picture of how many members come from each location etc, and then arrange from that a meeting point for the noggin, you can tell i've been thinking about this
