Crash pad screen vents

Post by jeff hoole » Fri Nov 08, 2019 10:35 am

As above should there be a trim round the vents ?
Mine as pieces of ribbed rubber. Or should the vinyl just form a slot ?

Nothing around mine Jeff - the vinyl is just folded inside and glued in position

There's certainly nothing shown in the parts book.
I have home-made trims like you Jeff.
I did find some smart metal trims at an auto jumble once - but they were not long enough.
Such things probably exist though.

Would the ones from an SE5 fit? I’ll measure up at the weekend if I remember.

As Peter says, the original fit is just fold-under and glue.

Yes, they will fit. I've done it to my Coupe and I think it does look much better. A bit of fettling required but not too difficult.

That looks nice and neat. Due to the very small amount of vinyl available, mine frequently come unstuck and look untidy, probably restrict the airflow as well. Se5 you say? Mike.

Yup, SE5. The dash-top is similar but not identical but the vents fit fine with a little bit of work with the Dremel.

The original is probably the worst bit of trimming I have ever seen. I think Reliant used the "near enough, that'll do" ethic there.

That's the same as I found (but in the right size  )
They are probably fitted to many different cars.
I may invest in a pair of SE5 ones.
Does Nigel have them?

Do they fit over the air outlet - mine is difficult to position in the centre so if they fit properly they will hold the outlet in position

Hi Peter,
Yes, they fit fine with a little adjustment with a Dremel to both the vents and the dash top.
😀
