Steering rack oil

Post by Clueless1 » Sun Oct 13, 2019 7:11 pm

Hi, I’m painting and re furbing the rack on my SS1 1600, putting on new gaiters and track rod ends etc. When I cut off the old gaiters quite a lot of black, stinking oil poured out. Needless to say I didn’t save it to reuse! What grade of oil and how much do I need to refill it with?
Cheers.

I had the same dilemma so used 50/50 Graphite grease and Hypoid oil mixed up. as I had that in stock. My choice!
However I believe the stuff for CV joints would be suitable.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
There are times when I think the gene pool could do with some chlorine.

Thanks. I spoke to a Graham Walker this morning and he suggested using grease, there shouldn’t be oil in there!
