Sabre driving lamps - when do they come on?

Post by AJL Electronics » Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:40 am

Sorting out an M reg Sabre 1,4. There appears to be no power to the lamps under any conditions. When are they meant to illuminate please?

Pretty sure mk2 Sabres were advertised as front fog lights (so switch on centre console and power to the relay from dipped headlights).

Non dim-dip cars use them as main beam “flash” edit - I think all cars must use them as flash because dim-dip only comes on with side lights?

SS1 were advertised as aux lights - which come on with main beam.

Sabre driving lamps - when do they come on?

Thanks. looks similar to the SS1 then. I have fuse B6 intact and feeding power to the red/yellow brings the lamps on. There is no power onthe fat red, the other side of the fuse. The switch has a thinner red as an output which is live but nothing between the two. There must be a joint there or a relay / inline fuse that is not like the SS1 circuit. Any clues Peter?

S19 is the aux switch and R9 is listed as main beam power. On our Sabre he aux lights only come on with the main beam on - no doubt all cars are not the same. I have been planning for a considerable time to change the wiring so that the aux lights come on with the flash as per the SS1 - but not got around to it yet. I have no idea where F14 is

F14 is B6. I have power from the switch S19 and nothing getting to thefuse, so looks like there may be some loom damage.

My dim-dip SS1 doesn't have any aux lights (and no mounting holes either) but I have recently found the wire that would have supplied them and tested it, and it worked with main beam and flash. So that's added to the "to do" list.
The lens/beam pattern might also give you a clue - fog and aux lights are quite different.

Jim suggests that the Sabre has front fog lights rather than driving lights?
