yes there exists a slotted bar to take up belt slack.

A the present pump elbow would be in the way of a tangent joining the crank pulley to the alternator pulley. So I don't suppose the middle pulley could be done away with. A shorter belt should help matters. Not sure if my belt has four ribs...

Pump replacement is the best solution. Found this on ebay: ... 1438.l2649

that one could be worse!!! you'd be better with the one you flagged at the start of the thread? t looks as if it would have more clearance?

the angle of dangle (erection) is probably MORE important as the distance across the way towards the alternator as it was just the area where the hose slid over the pump.

Hopefully some others will confirm the length of drive belt, is your pump leaking or just being cautious/ready ?
