The mk2 Silvia boxes have the multi holed steel centre plate. Later, and longer s13 box (won't fit scims without mods) have less holes, s14 longer close ratio boxes have a single hole With a one way gate system to greatly reduce the oil movement into the rear half of the gearbox case. If ever the mk2 box is out and apart, JB weld all the holes up barring the lowest one, and narrow that by 50%

Effectively under hard acceleration the gear cluster runs dry, and all the oil floods into rear case, hence all the shiny bits in the oil

Out of interest, has Sir Hughes got much to say on the MK1 box (referred to by the Nissan mob as the type "B" I believe?) in terms of competitive use, strength, pitfalls etc?
There seems to be a way of modifying the gear stick to get a short throw on the MK1 also. Just requires the sourcing of a Nissan / Datsun 720 pick up truck gear lever.

Slightly less common than an 1800Ti, I suspect..reliant-reviver wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 2:49 pmJust requires the sourcing of a Nissan / Datsun 720 pick up truck gear lever.

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

I have to admit I've not really missed the scene unfortunately, but the cars still in the garage so if the mojo returns I can be back out, or utilise the car for some other discipline or succumb to an offer I can't refuse. Work and work social events do seem to take up most of my free time these days.

the mk1 B type is from the older 240z family. Strength seems about the same as mk2 but the design is older, shafts notbas well supported etc. It is a little smaller in girth and a gnats lighter too. Shift always seemed a little better than a worn mk2, less of a need for a slicker shifter.

Likewise between work and family it's a struggle to get anything done in the garage here. And I gather Crispy-one is a proper business with wearing of suits and not just telling people to bugger off with their problems.
As and when, there will always be time for dicking about with old cars and chasing the tarmac adrenaline rush.
Good to hear that you don't consider the B type / MK1 box to be useless, shall duly bolt it back up and hang on to my spare.
