GTC hood suppliers?

Post by Corky » Sun Nov 10, 2019 9:48 am

I had a GTC hood from Don and a Sabre Hood from Aldridge. Both were their best quality mohair type hoods and both were very well made and a perfect fit.

I fitted both myself without too much fuss. It’s easy enough to do if you take your time and ensure you have some good quality hole punch and popper tools to hand, and a pot of contact adhesive.

There may be some photos of the fitting on my GTC404 thread.

I hadn't realised that the poppers weren't fitted, with all the blurb about 'original patterns' I thought they'd know where to put the fixings! Maybe they sell the tools as well.

Yes you’ll need to fit the poppers yourself. Prym pliers work a treat and are not too expensive (John Lewis are a good source).

Thanks for the tip. All the ones I'd seen on eBay looked a bit flimsy! Nice to see they can punch the holes as well.

I've got samples on the way from Don and Aldridge, thinking that 'Burgundy' might be a dark red sort of thing. Or dark green :?
We've made a few in the past, here's an example of burgundy mohair, it's not as bright as the picture shows though!:

Was that the one that ended up with a TVR V8 - Bristol based? (can't remember the owners name but I think your dad painted it?)

Nope, this was mums, sold to a guy in Wales and never seen again!

The TVR V8 one was similar, ended up with the interior from mums one and was the same colour kandy but with a brighter basecoat, owned by John Mees, also been off the road for quite some time! These show the burgundy hood better actually.

Where are you based? I might have a job for you! Do you make them or fit Don/Aldridge?

Alex.

SE6 GTC Conversion, very much like my old car, but mine had a complete new GTC boot moulding used so the air vents were not in the mouldings.

Bill Sims old GTC next to it, Bill looks to be the bloke in the yellow jacket behind the cars ??????.
When was the pic taken?.

I think we built 5 or 6 of the conversions, moulds all went to scrap last year so we won't be doing anymore and with the current costs of gtcs I don't think there is a market anyway!

I'm not sure where the pics were taken, we weren't there I just found the pics online.

Edit: just looked, Stoneleigh 2006 apparently.

Alex I was not aware that a Body shop had converted SE6 to GTC "Professionally", mine was I believe part of Three that Scimisurgeon did,
I have seen a couple of SE5a to GTC conversions, was your company responsible ??
