Interesting Roger, When operated the choke plate moves to a predetermined position, you can feel a slight "click",
more movement is available if required, high idle is fine. Andy, that makes sense as I've a running rather than a starting issue.
Of course it's behaving at the moment.....

Seem to have this sorted. Its a manual choke, pulling knob moves choke butterflies & sets high idle.
From cold, full choke, one pump, starts instantly, immediately to half choke, maintains high idle,
Once on road, choke in, six cylinders firing, We have a nice day.
