It`s the bracket for holding the lid stay rod in place, a bit like a bonnet stay :W

Whilst I agee with all comments it was in a bag with other GTC bits ? hence I feel it may have a place on the car ?

Peter I have owned FIVE GTC`s, and still have 1 and part of one, but I have never seen the part in the photo. :)

Put it on ebay with a listing for jag e type bonnet stay. All the experts will then have great delight in telling you what it actually is!
