SE6 Propshaft UJ

Post by Laters » Wed Jun 26, 2019 7:37 pm

To try and eliminate one of the issues with my GTE the propshaft has been removed today so the rear gearbox oil seal can be changed to try & eliminate that as one of the automatic gearboxes oil leaks.
I suspect the rear seal and the seal where the kickdown lever is plus a small leak from the vac modulator which is being changed to adjustable type vac modulator being the sources of the oil leaks.

Looking at the propshaft the front UJ is nice and free but the back UJ is stiffer than the other and very notchy in one plane of movement. Its very notchy & almost clicky when going through the straight ahead position so needs replacing.

The local bearing supplier is telling me the part number of the UJ they have listed is as GUJ116.
The ones they are trying to sell me are the same part number as listed by these sellers on ebay.

I've searched the forum and these seem to be mentioned a couple of times.

I haven't managed to remove the old ones from the propshaft due to circlip plier failure. Ive left them soaking so when I pick up my replacement pliers they will hopefully come out easier.

Does anyone know if the above UJ's are the correct type as fitted to a 1976 SE6?

I had no intention of doing anything to the propshaft except maybe give it a clean up and a bit of paint while its off but since a problem has been found may as well sort the issues as I come across them.

SE6 Propshaft UJ

With my circlip pliers deciding they wanted a break & I cant get them replaced (under warranty) till next week I decided to go with the safer option of ordering the UJ from Nigel at QRG so I have a better chance of getting the correct part the first time.
At least the rusty propshaft can be cleaned up while I am waiting for the bits to arrive.
