Power steering rack SE6b

Post by DARK STAR » Sun Feb 18, 2018 7:38 pm

I have a spare power steering rack which the previous owner 'believed good'.
In view of the other elements I inherited which he believed good I can't in all honesty sell the thing.
Is there any way of checking it without actually fitting it to the car?

Theoretically you could make flexible pipes up to slave it from a car or bench mounted pump - probably far easier to send it to Mark? :D

I'm in France Jim, the carriage charges would be more than the thing is worth!

Really? I don’t know what a good PAS rack goes for but without testing it’s just an exchange unit.

Chris you would be surprised at how little it costs to ship a rack into UK, or back again.

I have shipped racks to France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, price varies upon the timescale but average price including Full Insurance average's around £30.

Hardest part is protecting it so I always make a solid box.

Nice thought Dennis but you are probably nearer to Le Mans than I am !

Incidentally two wiper mechanisms only cost me 22 euros to post - but according to la Poste they only weigh 3 kilos each (so perhaps I doubled the weight twice?)

ok will post it today LOL.
Last one of the NOS I have.
Do you want me to get a price on shipping an empty box out to you for the rack?
It`s worth £50 to me for a spares unit, but a lot more to someone who wants an exchange unit.

PayPal sent.
I could make a box easily enough, and if it's worth at least 50,00 sterling it would be worth sending it to you ...
I'll work on that one (must remember where I put the rack, too)

Ok Chris
If you bolt it inside a box allow for the Bulge under the pinion housing otherwise when you bolt it down the box may split.

If you go ahead I would organise the pickup ?.

I received 2 damaged racks in the past due to rough treatment by couriers. they seem very hard to protect using cardboard. The pipes really stick out and are perfectly positioned to get a good whack when thrown into the back of a van.
Have you considered using a length of PVC sewer pipe? I passed a window blind shop recently I saw loads of very long round cardboard tubes out for rubbish collection, these may also make a good shipping container.
