Scimitar GTC Scuttle Shake

Post by Rob Jones » Thu Aug 24, 2017 10:34 pm

Good afternoon al,
Having nearly completed my GTC restoration and driven to curborough and back, I was wondering, how much scuttle shake would you expect from a GTC.
When I hit bumps and holes, feels to me, the car shakes and rattles.
Kind regards
Rob

Is the rollbar properly fixed to the chassis at the bottom?

Yep, it's not a huge amount but it does not feel solid like a new drop head.

This car was driven back from Holland and has been on the road for several years hasnt it?

So is this a new thing or has it always done it?

I'd start with springs and dampers including bushes, then the rest of the suspension bushes, also check that the body to suspension tower bolts haven't come loose.

I done 340 miles in one day curborough and back, not a rattle or any scuttle shake totally solid. So I would say something is not right.

I think i would be looking at shocks and springs. Or maybe if the metal structure behind the dash not being fixed to the transmission tunnel?

Rob do you have the secondary door catches fitted and set up correctly, If they not a tight grip when the doors are shut you deffo get rattles.

??????????
Dave all my GTC`s have the "Metal structure" bolted to the A post/door hinge pillars.

Never come across anything in the middle of the car.

Mine has the h in the ctr that's bolted to the trans tunnel (that makes removing the heater box a total pig!!)
I thought I had a pic but I can't find it.

I've not had scuttle shake in any of the GTCs I've owned, so would agree with the comments above.
