Calling All GTC Owners

Post by Corky » Wed Apr 22, 2009 2:08 pm

Hi all, whether a RSSOC member or not I'd like to ask for some assistance with the Club's GTC register.

We have information on most of the production GTC's, but still have a couple of gaps. We rely on owners letting us know about ownership changes and modifications, but appreciate that sometimes you're too busy enjoying your car to find time to update us.

Please can I ask that you take a look at http://www.scimitargtc.co.uk/register.html and have a look for your car. If there is information missing or if the information is incorrect please can you let me know either by a PM or email me directly steve@scimitarcars.org.uk .

The information was taken from the list of production chassis numbers. The chassis number decodes into the production number and basic specification.

I would like to receive any pictures you have of your car for use on the list (even if it's in pieces). If you don't want your photos publishing but would like them in club archive please let me know.

If you haven't registered your car with the club, please let me know and I'll send you a registration form. None of the information on this form will be published, but it will be kept with the Club's GTC records.

I'm also interested in any cars that have been converted to GTC, whether an SE5 or SE6, home built or Avon conversion. The Club registration details for these will be with Jim King, but I would like to recieve any photos and build information you may have to publish on the GTC website.

And finally if you've written off or scrapped a GTC, I'd like to know about that too. It would be interesting to know how many of these cars are still in use. And also it will help to prevent anyone from stealing the identity of a scrapped car (unlikely as that sounds with just 442 + the prototype).

Cheers

Steve

I'll have a word at the next noggin with the owner of the (possibly the only?) Avon conversion.

The one with the 4.8 TVR lump...

definitely not the only one - Brian recently sold his (the new owner has contacted us) - I'm at work, so don't have the full list but I think there were 6 cars including the development one.

Yes, I'd agree there was certainly more than 1 Avon conversions. Unless there was also more than one with a TVR V8 though, that would presumably be John M's that appeared on the front & back covers of Slice 221 and which I photographed at Curborough about 3 years ago - certainly a beautiful car!

Do you have the chassis number Thomas?

I'm not registrar any more but I can check the database and pass it on to Graeme if required.

Jim, do you know if Graeme has a list of the known Avon conversions ?

Only what I annotated when informed - try a search on the spreadsheet?

Will do. Interestingly this one looks like it's got an SE6 front bumper, but with a chin spoiler grafted in. Or is it me and need I to find my glasses.

Yep - early SE6 "wavy" bumper with some kind of spoiler. 6b/GTC centre grille, 5a side badging.

It's certainly an early wavy bumper (John Mees' car has the same type) though I'm not totally convinced about the spoiler - the wavy bumper has a full-width spoiler anyway, then the later smooth bumper "filled-in" the ends so that you don't see the spoiler anymore (i.e. it's only in the middle) then the Se6b took the smooth type and added a new lower full-width spoiler again.

So potentially the donor car was an SE6 ? Is there anything under the bonnet that could confirm it, apart from the brake servo and mc that we can't see on the photo.

I think it's PYV857R (chassis 2268) - detailed in Slice 130 pages 72 & 73
