2.8 crankshaft pulley/damper advice please and wanted

Post by rdudley1 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:27 pm

When I replaced my timing gear a while ago I chipped the crankshaft pulley/damper when removing it. I now want to replace this pulley and have so far been unable to buy a new or used one - does anybody have one for sale or know who can supply one.
Also looking at diagram 88 the pulley assembly is in 3 parts - I thought it was in 2 parts - therefore to change the damaged pulley do i need to pull the smaller part off the crankshaft?
if yes can anybody recommend a puller that will fit in the confined space in front of the pulley -as this was the issue that I had before and hence the damage. I have seen the puller used in the Ford Granada workshop manual but this looks too big - or am I wrong.

thanks

You shouldn't need a puller. A couple of large levers should pop it off.

Unless it’s an auto. They’re PITA to remove.

If you make a plate to sit across the bolt hole, you can make your own puller using the two pulley bolts as an anchor.

As Steve says.
A piece of 20mm X 10mm by about 300mm.

Drill the two clamp holes 8.5mm at one end, about 50mm in, and in the middle drill and tap a 10 or 12M thread in the middle of them.
Undo the centre bolt until its flush fith the front face of the pully and using two of the four clamp bolts fasten the bar to the pully.
Using the centre threaded bolt wind the pulley off with the longer end of the bar resting in the bottom pan.
Unscrew the pulley as far as it will go, take the bar off and unscrew the crank bolt until it nearly lets go of the crank and repeat.

The pully will probably come free before it hits the crank bolt again.
Remove all and Bobs yer Dads Bro.

It is an auto - and the pulley was very difficult to remove last time - thanks for the info re making a puller - now I just need to find another pulley.

I took a seized pulley off an Essex the same way but didn't drill and tap the middle....just used a socket of the right size in the middle and then screwed up the two outer bolts...I'm assuming you could do the same on a cologne?
