Replacement heater....

Post by Oxymoron » Wed Aug 29, 2018 2:18 pm

My next project is to replace the leaky heater matrix, which has been bypassed up until now.

I've bought a replacement heater box to renovate with new foam, paint and a matrix which came with the car!

The idea is that it will save time when I take the old heater out, as the replacement will be ready to go!

Heater now partially apart, although I still need to drill out several rivets to remove the heater flaps, having already removed loads of rusty screws!...

I've had enough restoring this one!😁

It will just be nice to know that I won't be breathing in decayed foam and rust when I put the fan on!😎

You should be so lucky only breathing in rust and foam, today I got to clearing out my matrix.....wondered where the rat that was eating through the wiring had gone!
I should be taking photos but afraid that nobody else will sit in the car once done.

I bought a low mileage RX8 to run around in until I found a Scimitar last year and as it had been stood in a barn for 5 years, it had become a rodent hotel!
When I serviced it I found nut casings, bedding and droppings in the air filter housing and cabin air filter too!

Well I've finally got around to taking the old heater box out.

It was rusted in place, as it had obviously been leaking for a while during previous tenure and had corroded completely through the outer casing.

The retaining bolts all sheared off, but it's out!...Need to sort out the remains of the rusted bolts and put my renovated heater in.
