Can anyone say from which vehicle the SE6/ Middlebridge multi switch was sourced? If switch is no longer available then which is best alternative option for ease of wiring and fit? I've seen mention of Maestro/ Montego.

Yep, chevette but some models may need a couple of the wires swapping over.

An alternative is a late MGB switch (1977 on) if you cannot source the vaxuhall one. I know this because I have been experimenting! My original stalk is toast. The B one appears to be a good fit (has the correct collar to go on the steering column, has all the right features and will fit the metal plate of the original) but the plug end is incorrect, you need to save the original plug and re wire that (fortunately the loom colour coding is pretty much the same except the horn connections) and also the stalk itself looks a little different.

Thanks Plastic. Sounds to be a good alternative.

Can I ask PlasticMan if he knows of a special tool or technique to remove the pins from the 9 pin plug that mates with the SE6 / SE8 loom.
I too am trying to recover from failure of the Lights / horn multiswitch. Some wires may need to be moved about.

That's the Small Sports fitment.

In all honesty no! The plan is to chop the plug off the new switch and solder the new loom wires to the remains of the old one, giving me a correct plug (my old plug is okay I have already rigged it up to an MG multi switch to test). Although when I have done that I can then mess with left over plug and try and find out...

Actually looking more closely at the pins they appear to expand after being pressed through the plug. It may be possible to squeeze the end with some very small needle nose pliers and pull the pin back through the plug.

The pins are held in place with barbs that can be pushed back to get the connectors out of the moulding.

For reference purposes this is what a Chevette/MGB hybrid stalk set up looks like...

Not exactly pretty but it should do the job, I might have to get an MG washer stalk so its more matchy, matchy!

You can get extract tools for the barbs on the pins but an instrument screwdriver works perfectly.

I have a small length of new brake pipe that does that job.

From taking these apart does anyone know if the horn switch is at the steering column end or in the stalk?

My car has started sounding the horn by itself.
