I've used Imgur for ages and have been entirely satisfied with it Steve. I have my album preferences set to 'hidden' so you have to know the URL in order to see them - but (so far as I know) that only applies to albums, not to individual images not associated in an album. I've never had anyone comment on my pics in several years - don't know exactly why without looking further at my settings. Perhaps everyone hates my pictures :?

I had the impression a few years back that Imgur was run by a bloke in a shed in Montana or somewhere so it was a bit quirky and some of the features didn't work with certain browsers. It does seem better now though. I used to pay a subscription of about £10 pa for unlimited storage, but they've now discontinued that.

Only trouble with imgur is that your pics disappear again after 12 months.

I have generally used imgur on car progress threads for a few years and have then been disappointed to discover that the images start to disappear from page one through the document day-by-day.

Not sure if postimage is any more permanent, but for now I'm using that.

I didn't see anything to that effect - the reviews I found for it suggest all images have life long storage (hence why I've just created one of their accounts)? I've not seen it in the Help section either - maybe that's something they've changed?

Ah..

Yep. ^

They make it sound so casual there, like *maybe* it will happen. It happened as a matter of course. Day by day images disappeared once they went past a certain deadline.

A lot of my car hobby threads in various places are now devoid of the all-important images that tell the story.

Hmm, interesting. I can only call it as I see it - I've got images on Imgur which have been there since 2010 when I started using it and none have been deleted to my knowledge.

But I guess photos on any hosting site are vulnerable to a change of policy. Photobucket is a timely lesson.

Did you have an account though? I was only ever using their free service.

Could be why if so.

This is a real PITA. My photobucket account probably goes back 12years!

Mine still works at the moment. $399 PA? who on earth is going to pay that. I'd been thinking of changing anyway, as all their ads were driving me insane...

Yep, I did have an account - as I say, about £10pa iirc which gave me in theory unlimited storage capacity. I think it was about three years ago they removed the option to pay the fee and made it all available for free. I thought great, but trouble with things for free is that you're much more at the whim of the provider if they start withdrawing features or whatever.

Accounts on Imgur are now free and images uploaded to an account will remain there indefinitely. However you can still post without an account and it is those images that are at risk of removal I believe.

as far as I can see you can only download complete albums (which are saved as .zip compressed files). between the adverts and PB messing around it's taken me several hours so far

just checked and I have around 9Gb (of an available 18) in 60 folders.

To kill the ads when using PB, switch to Firefox browser and install the free UBlock Origin ad-blocker. (IE doesn't respond well to add-ons like UBlock Origin).
I switched to this combination a couple of years ago due to the infuriating PB ads and the swarm of malware lurking in those banner adverts of commercial websites.

Zero problem since. I appreciate that doens't address PB's new business model, but if cures the advert annoyance.
