Community Guidelines

We take pride in keeping our message boards respectful, pleasant, and enjoyable for members of all ages. Please read the following guidelines before posting.

Forum Etiquette

If this is your first visit to the forum, please try and make your first post in the "Introductions" section. Should a thread evolve such that it would be better placed in another area (such as "Project Progress" or a model-specific question) it may be moved there by the Admin or Moderator team very easily.
Each discussion forum has its own level of etiquette - this forum has been and continues to be quite free-reign in its tolerance policy (we like to feel) but there are a few guidelines we would appreciate you would follow to make life easier to both read and search:
Please use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation wherever possible. We accept that for some of our members, this isn't easy to follow for a number of reasons (English not a first language, reading and spelling problems such as Dyslexia and sometimes local/personal styles of writing, level of computer/internet literacy) but it does make posts easier to read and points easier to make - and hence any question easier to answer!
A couple of quick points of general internet "netiquette" - The continual use of capital letters is seen AS SHOUTING and will be seen that way by the vast majority of members so please only use it for real emphasis. Also, "text speak" may be in common usage but it does make things harder to read, Great isn't spelt gr8. Your friend isn't your m8 - thats a motorway in Scotland.

Posts not in English (normally the users native language) are welcome in the relevant "Overseas" areas only but please be aware that the club is mainly UK based and the majority of its members (and forum users) are native English speakers, your audience may be limited if the post relates to a request for help. The majority of European languages are spoken by a number of members, so don't be worried about using non-English words if it helps with explaining a problem of issue (or if you use an online translation facility such as Google, Babelfish, etc, please note this, as sometimes literal translation may be needed).

Quoting other posts is appreciated to ensure continuity of discussion, but there is rarely any need to quote a large section (or all) of a previous post especially when it may contain a large amount of text or images. Many users view this forum via a mobile device or data-limited internet connection who may incurr excessive charges as a result of copies of images with just a "Cheers" at the end of a post, let alone the increased time needed to download view threads or posts.

If you receive help via the forum, a "thankyou" is appreciated. Its simple manners, costs nothing yet is worth everything.
Newcomers to the forum may be surprised how quickly posts asking for advice or technical help may be answered. If you post a request for help, it's worth checking back fairly soon, as somebody may have already posted a solution, or a request for further information to help with diagnosis, which may be waiting for you. A cry for help followed by a lengthy silence, may create a bad impression

Everybody contributing to the forum is unpaid, and typing the posts by hand, in their own time. Please consider this before asking the kind of question that you could answer yourself in two minutes by looking in the workshop manual.

Club Membership

This forum and website is provided by the Reliant Sabre & Scimitar Owners Club (RSSOC) for promotion of the club, its aims (to promote the use of the Sabre & Scimitar range of sportscars), and for the benefit of its members, and as such its costs are borne by those members. Anyone who is seen to be using the forum as a replacement for joining (and retaining) membership of the club may be seen as "free-loading" by gaining many of the benefits of club membership without actually becoming a member. In other circumstances this may be dealt with in terms of the wording "theft" or "fraud" but we would appreciate that if you have gained benefit from the clubs services (including the forum) you would join the club, not least as a "thankyou" for any help and advice you may have received and may do so in the future.
For many users, this forum is their first encounter with the RSSOC - and unlike some owners groups, we are a club with an internet-based forum; not a forum that has named itself a club. The forum is only part of the owners club - why not enjoy the rest?
Access to various sections of the website and forum are restricted to current RSSOC members only; access available to the general public and non-RSSOC members may change at any time, and without warning.

Self-Promotion is Spam

All posts are read by our administration and moderation team. If we catch questionable content, it may be immediately edited or removed for further investigation. Any post that is considered excessive advertising for one's self-interests, including the promotion of a business fits under this subject. In these cases, users may be asked to instead partake in advertising, via the website and/or Slice. Items for sale as a private individual or noggin specific sites are excepted. Repeat violators who post self-promotional content may be removed and/permanently banned unless they take the option of paid-for advertising with RSSOC Ltd. Leniency will be provided to RSSOC Members as a benefit of being a member, and/or if RSSOC Members are offered preferential rates over the general public.
Users who join for the sole intention of promotion of a non-motoring theme or product are liable to be removed and banned without warning (Spammers).

Language and Trolling

Our community is family-friendly. There are young users and language should be kept within a reasonable level. Excessively vulgar language is not allowed. This constitutes the use of any kind of offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate material deemed unsafe for younger members. Inappropriate language will potentially be removed and users will be warned.

Do not post provocative, outrageous, or pointless messages only to get a response from others, i.e. "trolling." Repeat violators will be temporarily or permanently banned. Constructive criticism is normally welcomed, but please consider the actions that may result from criticism. If you feel comments may be of a sensitive nature, contact the member directly through email or Private Message (PM) rather than on the forum.

Lastly, if it is abundantly clear that a user has no intention of positively contributing to discussions, combined with an abrasive, combative attitude, they will be banned. Users must demonstrate an interest in contributing to vehicle related discussions. as this is a car club site after all. In other words, users who wish to do nothing but argue politics or other non-club/motoring related issues are not welcome as they do nothing to contribute to the site and are not worth the trouble and headaches.

Personal Attacks

In order to maintain a positive atmosphere, no personal attacks or insults will be tolerated. While discussions may become heated, it is not an excuse to resort to attacks or insults. There is a difference between a passionate, respectful discussion and one that delves into personal matters. Think of it as debating issues, not individuals. When the line is crossed, the discussion may be closed by the moderation team. Violators will be warned and potentially banned. If you feel you have been a victim of such an attack, please raise this by using the "Report this post" function - this will ensure it is dealt with as quickly as possible. A Private Message (PM) may have a delayed reaction depending on the online status of the Moderator or Administrator you may contact.

Moderators and Administrators Have the Final Word

If you have a problem or a complaint, direct it to the administrators and/or moderators, not to the forum. The appropriate actions will be taken. We reserve the right to ban flagrant offenders when deemed necessary, with or without prior warning.

Cross-Posting

If you have something to post and you're not sure which area it belongs in, do not post it in more than one area. If the administrators or moderators think it would fit better in another location, it will be moved there, normally without notification. Duplicate threads only serve to create confusion, and will likely be locked and/or deleted without warning.
The Forum has a “search” facility. If possible, please check before starting a new thread (for example, about that unusual car on ebay, or in film or on TV) as somebody else may have already spotted it and started a thread. Likewise, we aim to provide a growing repository of Scimitar-related information, and it may be the case that your question has already been answered.

Signature Rules

A typical signature contains the poster's name, e-mail address, website, and a favorite quote or saying. Excessive font or image sizes (suggested size less than 100 pixels high/32k in size) are not allowed. Anyone abusing this privilege will be warned and then have their signature removed until they acknowledge this guideline.

Multiple Accounts Per Individual Are Not Permitted

If you forget your password, use the password recovery tool, in which case you will be able to reset your password, given that you have access to the e-mail associated with your account. If you are still unable to login, contact an Administrator (see the "Forum Issues" section for contact details). Multiple uses of a valid club membership number are not allowed, unless club membership is in joint names. Any change to the membership details must be through the Club Secretary in the first instance.

Views, Opinions and Illegal content

The views and opinions will generally be of the individuals concerned and, unless stated, not those of RSSOC Ltd who cannot be held responsible for posts from any individual. Posting of content which is in clear breach of copyright (or links thereto) may be removed without warning but it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that any law has not been broken, or may be construed as so. Should anyone have cause to complain about any content or information posted here, please contact a member of the Admin or Moderation team in the first instance.

Again, please follow the above guidelines when posting on our message boards. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Admin or Moderation team. Above all, remember to have fun!
