I'm aware it takes time and that there are people working hard in the background, but wondered if there is a rough ETA for the changes to uploading photos to allow larger file sizes?

Thank you to those concerned for your hard work keeping the forum running.

Steve, it's not just a change to the attachment uploading but a full upgrade of the forum software is needed to achieve it. All of the add-ons and tweaks that the current system has accumulated need to be re-worked for the new version as it is very different under the bonnet. Most of the preparatory work is done and it's about to start being tested. The time for it going live depends on the results of that testing. Two weeks time is likely if the testing goes well but I wouldn't stake my life on it ( I've got my GTE to get through the MOT in that time as well).

The new attachment method actually resizes photos on-the-fly to a size that we can reasonably store; it will not store the original large file.

Thank you Ian. The MOT takes priority :D I have like I imagine most of us have no idea what goes into providing the forum, I've only just stopped typing with my elbows

Good luck with the MOT

Photobucket really know they have us over a barrel i have been searching for something for my T4 (pictures of lexus is200 seat runners if anyone has one) and and I would say over 60%of the images have gone. Funny in some respects but it does show how they think they can get away with what want to charge!!!!

Sad that my rebuild of SAR, which covers 90 pages, is not available with pictures any more. Like all the other rebuild threads on here the project restorations were such a valuable resource for our members. My thread is effectively useless now.
Luckily all my pictures are still on the hard drive of my laptop. Problem is that most pictures are over 3 mb and the process of resizing would be a mammoth job, very time consuming considering how many pictures there are and probably not worth it. Unless anyone has a short cut method of replacing the photos in the thread (assuming of course that I could even identify which picture was needed). Bl**dy PB, what an evil thing to do!

I think Photobucket is getting overloaded with people wanting to retrieve their images and move them elsewhere. ... or perhaps deliberately making it difficult?

I guess I am lucky that the first forum I started using (in 2004) had an Upload button so I never used Photobucket

All of my pictures are uploaded to that forum and I can use the image links on this forum, probably because it is a PHP based forum as well
They have a limit on size of the pictures of 600Kb. I have no idea of the total storage they use, but every picture that has ever been uploaded still exists.
Optional subscription is £10 and they have some sponsors - with quite a few people subscribing and the sponsor money, it takes care of itself

I think hosting the pictures on the forum is the way to go

Thanks

OK, just discovered this problem as I was going to link my thread into a reply on the scim facebook page but found the photos were missing.

As they say, "if it seems too good to be true". Lots of money pumped into the internet over last 20 years and we've had lots of free things, supposedly paid for by advertising but these companies haven't been making money, just stock valuation based on wonderful numbers of users and amounts of traffic. I have my own web domain that I think I can maybe store the pictures in instead, I pay for that so it should always be there.

As I say to the children quite a lot, "that's another thing I've got to gix now".
