ScimitarWeb Upgrade Downtime

Post by Ian » Tue Feb 14, 2017 11:31 am

ScimitarWeb will be unavailable from 09:00 gmt on Thursday 16th February 2017 for up to 24 hours.

This is to enable the site to be moved to a new server. The move is necessary to allow the site to catch up with rapidly changing web technology. Hopefully you will not notice any immediate difference when the site comes back up but the new server will give developers more headroom to work with and move away from obsolete and unsupported versions of software.

I've just noticed something which, AFAIK, has only happened since this upgrade. Some of the images which have been posted as Attachments seem to have been corrupted.
I first noticed this when I was looking for the Brooklands 2014 photos earlier yesterday. In this post there is a good example, also my panoramas a couple of posts previously. I wondered if it was something to do with the age of the posts, but in this post from mid Jan this year, the same problem is evident in the third image.

I'll have a look to see if I can remedy it. I should have backup copies as well as the actual files that were moved.

The NE Scim site is still off but has changed from Unavailable to Forbidden - progress ? apart from, that I still don't get Topic Updates. I do understand it will take time to get it all right but assume you want to be kept aware as to what is not as it was.

Peter, the NE site will be available soon after tomorrow's work starting at 9am. Its part of the complications that I have to deal with. And yes, please, let me know of any problems; I can't realistically check absolutely everything to the nth degree so I rely on users to find the niggles that I miss.

Ian, just in case you didn't see them, a couple of other things that have been mentioned elsewhere, are that the Don Kennedy pages, and the Scimitar GTC register seem to have gone AWOL. Also I've just checked and it looks as though many of the Wiki pages are missing?

The Wiki is going to take a bit longer but the other two are in the same situation as the NE Noggins.

Well, that bit of work did not go as well as expected! :(
At least I think its all back online, but, as usual, please let me know in this thread of any more problems observed.
Thanks

OK the NEscim site is now back on line ( seems faster ) but I can not access it to make changes using the password I have. Still no sign of topic updates but that could be because there are none waiting for me.

The old GTC Registrar site is now available again. :D
Dave Green now has scimitargtc.co.uk and has his own site on it (will be accessible once he points his domain to the new IP :| ).
