Long time wanter, new haver

Post by bobsmate1001 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 8:24 pm

Hi
I have wanted A Scimitar as long as I can remember. Well now I have one. An SE6 now sits on my drive. The guy I bought it from told me it pins you back in the seat and sticks to the road like glue. I think he may have confused his rides with a trip out on a Zimmer frame!
Once I got her home I looked into the Machine gunning on acceleration. The timing was so far out I am surprised it ran at all, the carb was so gunked up it was only using one choke! And to cap it all the driver's seat runners self destructed on the drive home.
So.......I have serviced the Carb, changed the seats to MK1 MX 5 seats and got the timing somewhere close. I might have to take the dizzy out and move it along a tooth to get the timing spot on but it already runs better. It may be too rich, as It will start with no choke, but doesn't smell rich though.
Anyway the next issue is the seats are a little higher than the originals and the steering wheel is now too close to my legs and a wheel an inch or so smaller dia would be better. Am I right in thinking it is a standard Ford Spline?
My other car is a Lotus 7 style kit car and the engine and box in that will eventually be going in to the Scimmy.

My cologne runs sweet but if it went bang I would definitely put a V8 in it

Welcome, always nice to hear of a new owner and club member joining the madness fold, with regards splines, a member discovered that ford escort fits, think I've spare tatty smaller wheel with hub if you're after one for peanuts or fit a flat bottomed one as I did on my SE6b, it's now sat in my garage awaiting fitting to my SE5a

SE4c rebuilding. SE5a similar it seems!

bobsmate do your research well before you consider the swap.

It aint easy and can cause a lot of pain.

I used to own a small block chevy conversion, look at it on youtube, chevvy engine scimitar, the yellow one.

Even though this had been done professionally it caused no end of headaches, but was fun to drive and show off in.

See the Beast on youtube under" RELIANT SCIMITAR CONVERSION LOL.,Se5,Se5a, Se6a, Two Se6b`s, GTC, SST 1800Ti & not a lot of sense

The bodywork was hand made by me from an idea, no plans. It is riveted and bonded via bulkheads to the frame of the car.

That looks rather good ... from the front at least.
The exhaust manifolds are magnificent, pity they won't fit on a Scimitar (you will need Rover P5 manifolds or made to measure).
If you are anywhere near Wakefield John Coates is the man to see about V8 conversions.

The bloke who made those manifolds is just a few miles from me and he can't wait to do the manifolds for the Scimitar.
He has done exhausts for some of the most famous cars in the World.
I walked in to his workshop one day and he had two Ferrari in for new pipes, just over £2 million quids worth!
The Scimitar will have tuned length manifolds to suit the engine. Although they probably won't look as good as those they will definitely do the job.

Started to take Essex engine, box and overdrive unit off as well as tubular exhaust and silencers. Once off they will appear in the For Sale section.
