men get drunk and end up with new car

Postby fightingtorque » Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:50 pm

Hi,
After one or two too many, myself and a mate somehow agreed to acquire a scimitar, on the understanding that we had to pull it out of the field where it was resting the next day.

To be fair, the Scimitar is on the (long) list of cars I have considered acquiring, as a useable, tax exempt classic.

It's a 69 SE5. Paint flaking off all over, I have had a quick look at the chassis and it does have some issues at the outer edges, not finished inspecting it yet. I am hoping it is good enough to weld up locally without taking the body off, then restore properly another year or two down the line. Will know more when I finish crawling around with the wire brush and rustfinding screwdriver.

Haven't had the enigne running yet- nearly did, it started firing but then the starter gave up, I have bought one on ebay but not received yet.

Wheels are steel and tyres are old, so am also thinking about 15" alloy wheel options.

My mate has an MGA and previously owned various MG's, a Bristol and a Tiger 6. I have an Esprit and some random fiats in my collection so we are used to working on these old motors. I owned a Porsche 924 in the past as well so am familiar with the usefulness of this kind of 2+2 arrangement.

Based just near Norwich.

Gav / David.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. :D

Re chassis rust, and more particularly replacement wheel options, there's been quite a lot of discussion which the search function should bring up, but if you've any more questions then shout!

cheers,
