SE5a For sale

Post by Ken » Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:10 am

1973 SE5a Manual O/D

I am selling my 5a as not being used and do not want it to just deteriorate in the garage.

It is a runner with no know major faults. Passed MOT in April.

Unfortunately the body work is very poor (see photos). I guess the bodywork was not prepared sufficiently well before the respray and therefore the paint is peeling. Also some crazing.

The chassis is in good condition.

I purchased the car in April 2013. It was a body of rebuild/respray in 2008 (have photos of rebuild). Work on the chassis was undertaken. I do not know if any work was undertaken on the engine but the oil pressure is good. It was then sold to Stondon Museum from where it was purchased by the previous owner. He sold the car due to the poor paintwork and running costs. Another reason may have been overheating, which was due to a slipping fan belt!

Since I have had the car I have done some work as well as the usual servicing. This includes new adjustable Spax front shocks and springs, new fuel pump, new otter switch, anti-roll bar links and bushes, new clutch salve and master cylinders, alloy timing gear, new water pump, new carburetor, new ignition coil, core plugs replaced (except rear of engine) and replaced rear axle oil seal. I have also fitted a tow bar and rear seat belts. Rear brake shoes fitted recently.

I presume during the rebuild new radiator, stainless steel fuel tank, stainless steel exhaust and manifolds were fitted together with new brake pipes and hoses, suspension bushes (yellow nylon type), fuel line, rear adjustable Spax shocks and springs. Orange rocker covers have also been fitted.
Tan interior OK but could be better. Fitted with Cobra seats (split in drivers seat, see photo).

The clock, rev counter, engine bay light and passenger door interior light switch do not work. The fog lights do but need replacing as glass broken, an over rider has fallen off (must fix), no front speakers are fitted and split in centre console (see photo of split in seat). I does now need a service. Tyres also need to be replaced due to age not wear. Rear bumper chrome is poor.

Passed MOT in April (advice brake imbalance and leak rear hub seals). Displayed Mileage is 14460.

I also have a spare rear axle if anybody wishes to collect (no charge). I have no idea of condition (but not seized).

Location Winchester

£2950.

I’d agree - price seems quite reasonable and would be double this amount if it was in mainland Europe.

lol its a very reasonable price, looks good underneath where it really counts-a lick of paint and it would be a cracker-prices of these are rising, imho not a bad place to have your cash

i bought one the other week for a bit more than that, went back to the blokes place ten days later for spares that came with it and he said the messages still were not stopping, that was on a facebook advert up for twelve hours then pulled off,he had been offered way above his asking price too

Thank you for your comments. I was beginning to wonder if the price was pitched correctly.

I know it is not a stunner but underneath all is good and it runs well. I think I will keep the price as it is, or very near, so that the new owner could fill up with petrol for the drive home at no extra cost.

I agree, that's a reasonable price for a usable appreciating classic,
Ideal for someone who wants to do a bit of work here and there, but still use the car.
