Toying with the idea of selling my GTC

Post by AJL Electronics » Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:52 pm

I have purchased some black fabric dye so that I can sort the fading to the top of the headrests and the armrests. First test looks promising. I also have some Renovo so will be sprucing up the soft top too.

The car will also have a hard top with it if wanted.

Front offside wing painted today. Shade is slightly different but we will see what some mopping will achieve. Certainly is a shiny wing!

The car will be on display at Curborough and will have the documents handy if someone wants to drive it home.

Spent all day fluffing! New interior is all in, the armrests and headrests match the rest and the soft top has been treated to some Renovo. Paintwork has been mopped and is largely shiny and presentable, although it does have the different shade (original colour before fading) front offside wing and rear wing patches. As a result the car will be on sale at the lower price of £5995 which can include a hard top if wanted. However I will not be bringing it to Curborough with the car.

I can also offer the option at a higher price to repaint the car.

Selling my dual fuel, A4LD automatic GTC. New MOT.

Andy,

I've just flicked through you for sale thread, I'm not in the market for a GTC at the moment but with my imaginary buyers hat on I was left wondering if the way you've presented the changes / improvements you've made over the course of this thread might inadvertently put off potential buyers..!

The photos are all from different time periods and I'm not sure they fully show interested parties the car as it sits 'now' ? a fresh set of pictures and a new advert might really help.

Also is it a trade or private sale? The photos of the car on your drive also look much better than the ones taken at your unit, the unit pictures imply the car is a project in need of work or that you are a dealer, the ones on your drive say useful classic.

If i was in the market for a nice GTC the following small niggling things might put me off:

I think the yellow on the steering wheel Is going to be too 'Marmite' for some buyers.
I'd consider deinstalling some of the aftermaket electronics on the dash, (the CB? Radio, parrot and phone holder all look a bit fussy to me.)
I thought the origonal style gear shifter looked much nicer than the scorpio one. (Though I appreciate there may be a functionality reason for changing this)
Rust on the drivers side seat runner really stands out in some pictures,
The handbrake gaiter looks a bit tired and in some pictures theres a white stain around the rear ashtray that makes it look as though the roof has leaked. Even though in other pictures its clearly in really nice condition!

Hope your not offended by any of my feedback, Hope you find a buyer soon it does look like a decent car.

Cheers

Joe

TBH if it were nearer I'd come and have a look, despite the fixed this and that and sprayed this but it doesn't match thread. Your right though a new ad with all the previous bits removed would present the car better. Stuff like gaiters can always be changed by the new owner although shabby bits do tend to increase the what'll you take brigade and sucked teeth crowd. I'm north Scotland, tempted by a GTC to replace a TVR.

Interested in the dual fuel set up, all certificated? That would a great help to my running costs.

Nobody will issue a certificate unless they did the whole job start to finish. However, I have had it at the local specialist a couple of times for the new tank to be plumbed in, follwed by setting up and checking over. They are fully happy with it and there have been no issues. Then again, nobody, including the insurance company has ever been the slightest bit bothered about certification. Maybe due to it being a classic.

It certainly makes a difference to the running cost as well as the range as it has a full size petrol tank as well as a decent size LPG tank.

This is true but equally people come here to buy a Scimitar as well. Obvious place to look, you would have thought :)

Then there are those who fancy trying another of the breed - I could go on, but it will be a smaller audience on here albeit significantly more focused towards the Scimitar and Sabre.
